The visuals for the One Planet film were created by researching the NASA and ESA archives for photographs where mankind's impact was clearly visible from space. These included deforestation and forest fires, water usage, agriculture, smog, coastal pollution and the impacts of climate change on glaciers and polar ice.

Officer Tom McCloghry is a cop on the beat, patrolling downtown Columbia, South Carolina to keep the streets safe. And, though it's not so unusual these days to see police on Segways, this one is different. This is a hydrogen hybrid Segway, created with support from the National Science Foundation. In just the last few years, Columbia has transformed itself into a hotbed of hydrogen research, thanks in large part to the Industry/University Cooperative Research Center for Fuel Cells at the University of South Carolina.

Pioneers John Elkington, Bjorn Stigson and David Suzuki fear that things may get worse before they get better on climate change issues. Only when our daily lives are disrupted and we have realized the connection between our actions and their consequences, will we finally unite on the issue.

What does it take to be an effective leader in the 21st century? According to John Elkington, Mark Moody Stuart, Rajendra Pachauri and others, leadership on the sustainability agenda will require the vision to make decisions with the next 50 or 100 years in mind, and to identify and support emerging innovators and changemakers.

West Africa's coastal fish stocks are being depleted by foreign fishing fleets from Europe and Asia. Overfishing is threatening the region's fish resources and the livelihoods of the people of West Africa. For the fishermen of Mauritania, it is getting hard to make a living. Having to venture out further to sea, their small boats are at risk of capsizing in a storm or being overrun by the foreign trawlers.
